Sewing bags made easy!

In the following blog posts you will find exciting information so you can get started with your bag right away!

Understanding sewing patterns
What is a sewing pattern and how is it used?
A sewing pattern is the template used to cut and sew fabric together – for clothing, bags, or accessories. Most are available as A4 PDFs for self-printing, or alternatively as A0 plotter files or projector versions.
While clothing patterns are designed for fit and body measurements, bag patterns prioritize stability and functionality – seam allowances are usually already included. A good pattern includes a layout plan, a control box, labeled pattern pieces, and information on fabric and interfacing. High-quality, tested patterns save time, simplify sewing, and lead to professional results – perfect for beginners and experienced sewers alike.
In my blog article "What is a sewing pattern and how is it used?" I explain what makes a good sewing pattern and how to use it correctly.

Bag fabrics, cutting and processing

The right fleece
What reinforcement do you need for sewing your bag?
When sewing bags, the right interfacing (also called fusible interfacing) ensures stability, shape, and durability. Depending on the desired structure, you can choose lightweight interfacings like H250 for small bags, medium-weight interfacings like S320 or Vlixo S300 for shoppers, and firm interfacings like S520 or Decovil for bag bottoms and flaps. Volume interfacings like H630 or H640 provide padding for soft bags, while foams like Style-Vil are particularly strong and resilient. Great and affordable alternatives like VLIXO interfacings are also now available. With the right interfacing, every bag becomes professional, robust, and visually appealing – whether you're sewing a cosmetic bag, a shopper, or a backpack.
How to choose the right interfacing for your bag, cut it to size, and iron it on correctly – that's what we'll discuss in my blog post "The Right Interfacing for Your Bag." Plus, I have a great freebie for you!
